LAWN CARE TIPS & ADVICETips and products to help keep your lawn at its best
A lawn must be tended to regularly for the first few weeks, and should be properly maintained to ensure the turf develops well and remains healthy. The maintenance of a lawn includes watering, mowing and fertilising.
Though established turf generally requires less maintenance, it is important to mow your lawn regularly and water wisely to produce deep roots. Fertilising is recommended throughout the spring, summer and autumn months.
Turf should not be allowed to dry out for the first 7-14 days, or until the turf has taken root. An established lawn should be watered wisely to produce deep, drought tolerant roots.
A new lawn should not be mown until the turf has taken root. During summer, weekly mowing is recommended, remembering never to mow more than 1/3 of the leaf length.
New lawns should be fertilised six weeks after laying, followed by a deep watering. Once established, we recommend fertilising throughout spring, summer and autumn.
This is only necessary to correct uneven areas and fill low spots of your lawn, and should only be done during the growing season. Remember never to top dress more than 1cm in a single application, making sure the grass tips are still exposed.
To promote healthy root growth in your lawn, you should consider using an aeration tool to punch small holes in your turf. This will allow air, nutrients and water to reach the roots quicker, and more effectively.
